Dutch Windwheel

Global development several locations
The Dutch Windwheel is conceived as a powerful architectural icon that combines sustainable technology, urban experience and tourism. More than a landmark, it acts as a gateway to city and region, appealing to the imagination while demonstrating what climate-driven architecture can achieve. Designed to be realised in different locations worldwide, the Windwheel positions itself as a forward-looking model for sustainable tourism and urban development.

At its core, the building is shaped by the principles of climate design and circular building. Its form is optimised to harvest energy from wind and sun, while double façades and stepped terraces create passive climate zones for natural ventilation, heating and cooling. Built from secondary and biobased materials, and designed for disassembly and reuse, the Windwheel is layered according to different lifecycles and conceived as an upgradable system — a living platform for innovation rather than a fixed object.

The Windwheel also offers a unique experiential and economic proposition. Rotating viewing cabins, panoramic spaces and immersive digital layers create an attraction that is inseparable from the building’s sustainable performance. At the same time, the structure generates value as real estate, tourist destination and renewable energy source. By integrating living, hospitality, energy production and experience into one coherent system, the Dutch Windwheel demonstrates how architecture can simultaneously create environmental value, social meaning and long-term economic resilience.
