Brewpup

Haarlem, the Netherlands
The Brewpub is conceived as an open, layered place where inside and outside flow seamlessly into one another. Framed views over the industrial landscape and waterfront become part of the experience, while a sequence of distinct atmospheres allows for both intimacy and collective energy. This is a space that invites different ways of use, encourages change over time, and creates moments of connection—between people, place and brand.

At the heart of the concept is a compact yet iconic structure: a double-height timber frame organised on a 5 × 5 × 5.2 metre grid. By lifting one corner to its maximum height, a stepped landscape unfolds, spiralling from ground level to the roof terrace and sky bar. This three-dimensional form is both raw and refined, subtly referencing industrial logic while reinterpreting it as a social engine. Here, form follows interaction—guiding movement, framing views and turning the building itself into a stage for shared experience.

The interior and exterior are organised as one continuous landscape. A central bar anchors the ground floor, with seating that spills naturally onto the terrace and up the generous steps, which double as lounge, meeting space or tribune. Climate-responsive design principles underpin the concept, combining natural ventilation, passive heating and cooling, and dynamic shading with biobased and circular materials. Together, architecture, interior and landscape form a flexible, future-ready Brewpub—playful in character, robust in use, and deeply rooted in its context.
