We transformed an existing crematorium into a calm, nature-connected environment where farewell rituals unfold in close relationship with landscape and light. Through a biophilic, biobased intervention, a new pergola structure acts as a climatic and spatial mediator: regulating sun, wind and privacy while allowing an open, gradual connection between interior spaces and a sequence of thematic gardens. Rather than enclosing the experience, the design creates moments of openness, shelter and transition, reinforcing a sense of dignity, comfort and closeness to nature at a vulnerable moment.
